Abdelkarim Najah

Is 29 years old. He is Saharan and he used to live in Cabo Bojador. It is not easy to live in Western Sahara and less still having lost his mother and father when he was three. Abdelkarim worked in rural areas as a farmer but also as a bricklayer. He would like to live in Madrid because a friend of his lives there, working as a waiter. Actually, he would not mind having that job or any other.

It has been five months since he left Dajla on a dinghy to reach the coasts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He was able to get some money for his journey thanks to a loan that he expects to pay off soon. The route lasted three days. Three days in which the short supplies of drinking water and food became the regular basis. He left behind his three brothers and his wife, to whom he is longing to send money once he gets a job.

After two months in the Canary Islands, he was able to buy a passage to Madrid, but the authorities did not allow him to travel. Since that very moment, he has been in Las Raíces, where life matters do not seem to be urgent, hoping for his political asylum application to be solved soon.
