Abderahim Hamir

Learns Spanish very quickly. Actually, he helps his friend Youssef as a translator –whom he met in Las Raíces, despite having been neighbours in Marrakech. He has a severe wound in his hand, whose gradual deformation causes him pain. He suffered an accident with a flour mixer in the bakery where he used to work. He would like to have the money to pay for a full radiograph and the surgery, but accomplishing that goal does not seem a realistic aim in Las Raíces.

After his father’s passing, he is the only member of his family to receive a salary. He had been working in the bakery for three years until he gathered all the money to pay for his journey on the dinghy. It was slightly cheaper for him than for the other 27 people who travelled with him. That was because Abderahim helped the captain of the boat and they agreed a 500€ discount for the “ticket”. That episode did not prevent the journey’s harshness, since the dinghy filled with water and it took three days for the boat to arrive at the Canary Islands. Three days without sleeping. Three days without even knowing whether they would see solid ground again.

He heard that he can find a job in Almería, so that is where he would like to go next. He does not care the harshness of the tasks he will have to do once he is sure of getting the money to help his mother and sister in Morocco.
