Altou Seye

Comes from the region of M’Bour, in Senegal. He is 17 years old and he has been an electrician since he was 15. He began working soon because his father is blind and his mother has a problem in her legs and she can barely walk. Altou is the youngest of five siblings: his sisters are married and his brothers are fishers.

The economical situation of his family is really precarious. For that reason, he arrived in Tenerife on a poorly-conditioned dinghy on November 7th, 2020, after spending seven days on a dangerous trip with 130 other people. As he was a friend of the dinghy’s captain, he did not have to pay to get on board.

Altou is a minor and he is in Las Raíces when he should be in a juvenile facility. He has been almost four months there, waiting for his interview for the process of applying for international protection. He aspires to work and send enough money to help his family. Despite all this, he dreams of returning to Senegal with a good economic background to settle there and continue helping his family.
