Ahmed Lahmidy

Is from El Kelaa des Sraghna, in Morocco, where he was born 46 years ago. He has been a fisher since 1995 as he proudly shows the videos where he catches giant octopuses. He worked for a Moroccan company that exports fish from the city of Dajla, in Western Sahara.

Despite his long experience driving boats, it is not the same going fishing than getting on board a dinghy to migrate. During the route, the roaring sea showed its fierceness as you could feel the fear emanating from the faces of many of the people surrounding him. One of those faces was that of his own son. Being a minor, his son remains in Gran Canaria, where the dinghy in which they travelled arrived after a 42-hour journey. After arriving in Las Raíces, he has seen his son just once, despite talking daily to him and to his sons and daughters in Morocco.

Although Ahmed has started the claim for international protection, he has neither been able to see his son nor has he received any institutional response. He wants to go to Málaga with him, where they will be able to meet Ahmed’s brother-in-law, who works in farming. Ahmed will change the sea for the soil to sustain his daughters and sons. He just wants them to be happy.
