Mamadou Mdaiye

Is 43 years old and he comes from M’Bour, Senegal. He is a fisher and he has six children from 4 to 22 years old.

Mamadou came with his oldest son, who worked as a fisher in Senegal as well. The conditions of the dinghy were really poor but they knew how to face them as they are used to being on the sea. The climate was stormy, with big waves menacing their boat, so they stayed a whole day watching the island from their boat without coming near the shore.

His son is in a juvenile facility. He had not seen him since they got off the boat in spite of being on Tenerife and missing him. After six months, three of those months in Las Raíces, it is now when he obtained an answer to proceed to the conciliation. The most important thing for Mamadou is being with his son. That is why he will do what his son decides to do: if his son wants to stay in Tenerife, Mamadou will stay with him, and if he wants to look for an opportunity in some other place he will follow his steps. The aim is to work and earn enough money to provide for his family in Senegal. The decision between coming back to his home country once he saves enough money to buy a house or claiming for the rest of his family to come to Europe will depend on that.
