Rachid Azaiter

Was born 28 years ago in the city of Marrakech. In Morocco, he earned a living as a plumber. Nevertheless, there are not decent working opportunities for someone like him in his country, so he is heading for Verona, Italy, the city where one of her brothers is living. He would like to work in farming.

He arrived in the Canary Islands on board a dinghy, leaving his family behind: his mother, his father, his grandparents, his sister and another brother. He cannot live in peace in Las Raíces campsite: there’s too many people in a very limited space, the food is deplorable, the psychological and healthcare is not enough… It seems difficult to fall asleep bearing in mind all the problems he had along with the ones he has now: the noisy planes and helicopters don’t allow him to listen to all the birds in the surroundings, the cold reaches the deepest of his bones and the conditions are subhuman.

His passport has already expired and he seeks international protection for humanitarian reasons. However, the means to manage these petitions are scarce and these processes are prolonged in time. Meanwhile, Rachid, like the rest of the people in the campsite, waits for a solution.
