Sidi Sow

Is 17 years old and he has worked as a motorcycle mechanic since he was 12. He is the oldest child of a family native to Saint-Louis, Senegal, and the only one of them who works there.

His life goal is to learn, to work and to save money to help his mother, as she is the one looking after his three sisters and two brothers. Sidi is determined to help to cure one of his sisters, who was born with an undiagnosed illness.

Her strength to carry on her life was Sidi’s greatest motivation to get on board a dinghy. Without letting anyone know that. Before anyone could see him. He hopes his brothers and sisters never to go through what he experienced in that journey. That being said, for them, Sidi would put his life at risk again. He would spend another eight days in the middle of the ocean. He would face the fears that only the people who have survived a similar experience are able to know.

A distant relative living in Madrid can host him, help him to learn Spanish, help him with his studies… that’s why, once he arrived in the Canary Islands, he didn’t tell anyone he was a minor: because he just wanted to go on with his journey. He just wants to arrive in Madrid. In that place, that particular type of strength who leads him to do everything will do the rest.
