Ousmane Fall
Is only 17 years old. Just 17 years old.
He became an adult much earlier, with 12, when he started working with his family, farming onions in a leased land in the province of Louga, Senegal. The benefits they obtained from the crop were scarce. They are not enough to fulfill the basic needs of his parents and siblings.
Hence, they saved money for a whole year so that Ousmane could take a dinghy. It was his older brother who got the contact and paid for it. A whole year of effort. A whole 17-year-old life packed on board a dinghy along with the lives of one hundred people.
Ousmane arrived in Tenerife after nine days on the sea. He arrived on top of his 17 years. Despite being slightly older than him, his friends take care of him in Las Raíces campsite. He is still waiting there. Because neither his 17 years nor the petition of his uncle to find him in Malaga matter as he is not allowed to leave the campsite.
It was Ousmane’s turn to be 17 years old for no one here, including him, as his only goal is to work to provide for his family. He has no other choice.
